The Bodysnatchers, Genocide and War of the Daleks

[Original blog post on Tumblr: March 30th, 2015]

Some highlights of the last three EDAs I’ve read (The Bodysnatchers, Genocide and War of the Daleks). Only one of them was actually good, but still.

The Bodysnatchers wasn’t very good (I’d say 6/10), but it managed to make the Zygons slightly more interesting, and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t like them. It’s an okay reading, though.

Here we have Eight giving terribly dated compliments.

Here’s the door. Get out.

REALLY

I don’t really like Sam’s “cool kid with all the good comebacks” attitude, but that one was kinda fun.

GREAT JOB DOCTOR YOU’VE ACCIDENTALLY KILLED THEM ALL AND THIS BOOK ISN’T EVEN THE ONE CALLED “GENOCIDE”

At last, an interesting dialogue between these two in this book.

MacGyver, anyone?

Also, Eight calms horses by singing. That was cute.

This book was better (let’s say 7/10) [2022 note: I've re-read it later and I bumped that note to 9/10], with interesting moral dilemmas without obvious answers, a creative alien race, paradoxes, and paleontology.

Also, crushing sadness.

Okay why aren’t we doing the same thing? Petition to start using the Jones-Richter scale in the fandom right now.

 WARNING WARNING HARSHER IN HINDSIGHT

Petition to start using these classes as well.

YEAH I KNOW THIS IS AN ENTIRE PAGE BUT LOOK AT THIS

ALSO THEIR WRITTEN LANGUAGE IS BASED ON TASTE

HOW COOL IS THAT

APPARENCES CAN BE DECEPTIVE also I’m having Storm Warning flashbacks whenever I read “uncreator”

You actually misplaced the TARDIS roof

Really

Can’t help but laugh at “We’re losing the eighties”

YOU BURIED THEM IN THE BUTTERFLY ROOM GREAT JOB NOW I’LL NEVER BE ABLE TO THINK ABOUT THIS ROOM WITHOUT REMEMBERING THAT

HE LOST A FRIGGIN TOOTH

NOT OKAY

And to conclude on a high note, I really liked this dialogue.

This book retcons a ton of things about the Daleks and does nothing interesting with it. I really disliked this book, to be honest; the story wasn’t compelling and the prose was rather bland. 1/10

Still, there’s a few scenes I liked.

By far the funniest scene of the entire book, hands down.

Almost as if the writer was saying sorry, right here.

Okay here’s a Spice Girls reference again, but seriously all I can think of is WE ARE THE DALEKS AND THIS IS OUR SONG, WE ARE VERY NAUGHTY AND WE LIKE TO DO WRONG ♫

Next time, a book that I’ve only just started to read, and it’s already my favorite one.
