Some highlights of the last EDA I’ve read (Vanderdeken’s Children).
This isn’t exactly a review, more like some sort of retroactive liveblogging, since I took these screens while reading, along with my reactions. As usual, this is full of spoilers.

You know, I’m scared by very specific things that aren’t scary for most people. Vast deserted places are one of these things. Silence is another one. Weird architecture and/or geometry are also among them. So you can imagine the effect the first half of this book had on me. A gigantic abandoned alien spacecraft? My god. Is this going to be the Doctor Who equivalent of Rendezvous with Rama?
Sadly, once the mysteries begin to be solved, it’s a lot less satisfactory. The secondary characters weren’t very memorable either. But it’s a good book overall ; it’s just a bit disappointing after such a good set-up. 6/10

Off to a good start: the Cloister Bell is tolling.

A++ description I love this.

DOCTOR THAT JOKE WAS TERRIBLE
I laughed
I’m so sorry

THEY ARE TARGETING YOU, YOU WALNUT

“Some wild musician playing a symphony of deception”

A++ description again

I told you I was scared of vast desert places with strange architecture right - it’s like this derelict has been designed to creep me out.

HAHAHAHA NOPE

THIS WAS THE CREEPIEST THING I’VE READ IN A LONG TIME
Please go on

BE RIGHT BACK, LAUGHING FOREVER
SEASON 7 WAS LIKE “OH NO WHAT’S THE NAME OF THE DOCTOR IT’S SO MYSTERIOUS AND IT COULD BE SO DANGEROUS TO KNOW IT”
MEANWHILE SAM JONES IS LIKE “HEY GUYS I KNOW HIS NAME IT’S JUST A BULLSHIT GALLIFREYAN NAME WITH TOO MANY CONSONANTS, JUST CHILL OKAY IT’S FINE”

STILL LAUGHING I LOVE THIS

Is that a Myst puzzle

Probably

How much do you want to bet that he played Myst at some point in his lives

At this point I’m just trying very hard not to post more Myst references to be honest, let’s hope they’ll stop talking about puzzles and weird symbols and-

DAMMIT ATRUS STOP PUTTING RANDOM SYMBOLS ON EVERYTHING

Oooooooh this is cool.

THIS IS SO COOL

WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED

It shouldn’t make sense but somehow it does.

First it’s Lovecraft then it’s Myst then it’s Pushing Daisies
What’s next

NEXT IT’S SILENCE IN THE LIBRARY
NOPE
GOODBYE

WHAT THE HELL WHAT THE HELL WHAT THE HELL

This sounds like the kind of alphabet I used to invent when I was younger. Still using things like that to note my passwords.

I WANT TO SWIM THERE
Please

NOW IT’S GHOSTBUSTERS

It’s almost as if they were basing their appearance on people’s fears and now I’m having Silent Hill flashbacks, this book makes me want to make so many different references to so many different things I like that it’s not even funny

HAHA NOPE

NOPE²

HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY NOPE

Oooooh Sam is having flashbacks from Dreamstone Moon!

I should probably be horrified so why is it SO COOL

Yes the title spoiled it for you but this is also an unorthodox ghost story.

You know what, usually I like time loops, but in this particular case I liked the “mysterious alien ship” possibility more than the “time paradox” one.
Oh well.

This is far too cute & I made a happy noise

Breaking news: you can’t touch an insubstantial thing. You already knew that, but this character is very obtuse. Serves him well.

Yes good
